How To Prepare For Camping With Kids - Pacific Rayne

Camping with kids is fantastic.  I grew up taking multiple camping holidays a year and I wanted this to become part of my children’s lives too.

My eldest was 18 months old when we went on our first camping trip together.  She loved it and so did we.  We have learnt a lot since then, and I’ll share it with you now.

Camp close to home first

For your first camping trip with kids stay close to home.  It won’t matter once you get there that you are only a few miles from your house, because the camping itself is the adventure.

It will give you the peace of mind that if you’ve forgotten something, or the weather turns against you that you can always nip home.

Take blankets

The nights can be colder than you expect.  You don’t want your kids waking up in the night because they are cold.  Therefore, pack plenty of blankets.

They come in handy during the day too, when they can double up as picnic blankets or can be draped over knees when toasting marshmallows.

Prepare for all weather

Even if the weather says sunshine, you should prepare for rain.  Kids are resilient when it comes to weather but only if they are appropriately dressed.

You don’t want to deal with rain-drenched kids, or kids that are too hot because you forgot their shorts.  Just take several layers and a waterproof and you’ll have a great time regardless.

Double up on the snacks

I don’t know what it is about being outdoors, but it makes kids extra hungry.  Perhaps it is the running around or the fresh air, but food will be in near constant demand.

Make sure that you have enough snacks ready to keep their energy levels up throughout the day.  Nothing worse than hungry children.

You are there to have a good time too, so take some snacks, drinks and even another family with you, and spend the evening having a laugh and some relaxation.
